Chapter 6 blog
Chapter 6 discusses lighting and its functions in the filmmaking process. Lighting can be one of the most critical tools a cinematographer and filmmaker could use to bring out the best mood a film is trying to convey. It can make a romance film look more soothing and welcoming to viewers while lighting in a horror film can give off a sinister and foreboding atmosphere which causes the audience to feel tense, on edge and possibly scared.
"Good lighting in film is crucial because it sets mood, directs audience focus, defines characters, creates depth, and establishes time/place, transforming flat images into compelling visuals that convey emotion and support the narrative, making it a fundamental storytelling tool beyond mere visibility,. It helps bridge the gap between what the human eye sees and what cameras capture, ensuring visual quality and professionalism".
