The part of this chapter that caught my attention was when the author spoke about how directors often underestimate how much of a role they should play in lens choice. I find this particularly thought-provoking, thinking about things like "in which of my favorite movies was the director less involved with the camera lens decisions?" and then this brings around a follow-up question, "could the movie have been even better if the director had input their opinions for the camera lens?". We go on to read more about the details of how a camera lens can change certain things about movies, like the exposure, color, and the depth of field. Previous to reading this chapter, I honestly had very minimal knowledge about cameras and their lenses. So, I chose to do a little research on one of my favorite directors, Greta Gerwig, to find out how much of a role she has in making these lens decisions, and it turns out she plays a major part in them. I think that this is part of what makes her movies so incredibly special, like Lady Bird, Barbie, and Little Women (2019).
I linked an article below talking about some of those very intentional choices that Gerwig made with the camera when creating one of my all-time favorite movies, Lady Bird.
